Herma Keil and The Keil Isles were a prominent New Zealand rock and roll group active from the late 1950s through the 1960s. The band was composed of the Keil brothers; Olaf, Herma (Herman), Rudolf, and Klaus, and their cousin Freddie Keil. Originating from Samoa with German ancestry, they became influential figures in New Zealand\'s early rock scene.
In 1965, they released their version of "Stagger Lee" as the B-side to the single "Teardrops," released under Viking Records. Then included it on their album, "The Sound Of Herma And The Keil Isles," the following year. This recording showcased their ability to adapt international hits into their distinctive style, contributing to their popularity in the New Zealand music scene.
The Keil Isles were known for their energetic performances and played a significant role in popularizing rock and roll in New Zealand. Their contributions were recognized in 2012 when they received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Aotearoa Music Awards, cementing their legacy in the country's musical history.
