The Tail Gators are a renowned swamp rock trio from Austin, Texas, formed in 1985 by guitarist and vocalist Don Leady, bassist Keith Ferguson, and drummer Gary "Mudcat" Smith. Their music blends elements of rockabilly, blues, and Cajun influences, creating a distinctive "swamp rock" sound.

In 1987, they released the album Tore Up, which features the track "Ballad of Stagger and Lily." This song is an adaptation of Al Urban's "Lookin' For Money," retitled for this album. The track showcases the band's energetic style, combining traditional rockabilly rhythms with their unique swamp rock flair.
